We have been having so much fun with our pirate themed play the past few weeks! It can be difficult to think of ideas to include little ones in the play, so I wanted to share some of the learning activities I created for Grayson! He is 14 months old, and we are working on learning colors and shapes, so each activity focuses on either a color or shape.
IN & OUT BOX
We bought a huge tub of pirated themed foam stickers. I attached stickers to popsicle sticks, and cut holes in an old shoe box. I purposefully chose red and yellow stickers, so we could talk about those colors as he pulled them out, and pushed them back into the box.
RED SENSORY BOTTLE
Glitter glue and warm water was all it took for this simple activity! Both of my boys couldn't get enough of shaking the bottle and watching the glitter settle!
MUFFIN TIN DUMP
I had purchased these jumbo gems for our pirate theme, and they got a TON of use from both boys. For this, I grabbed the yellow and blue gems and Grayson would put them in the muffin tin, and dump them out.
FEATHER PULL
We were thinking about the pirate's parrots with this activity! Using an old utensil holder, I pushed in the feathers, and Grayson pulled them out. If you haven't noticed, he LOVES putting things in and out right now ;)!
WHERE DID IT GO?
I took one blue gem, and two red solo cups. I would hid the gem under one cup, and Grayson would have to find it.
So that's it! A lot of work with the colors red, yellow, and blue, and some fine motor practice! It was a fun themed week!
