I've been so happy with how Grow a Reader is coming along. It has helped Hayden's reading fluency and confidence!!

Here is a little sneak inside Grow a Reader, Unit 3.

Each week 4 new sight words are introduced, as well as a word family. There are also activities for rhyming, syllables, fluency, and beginning sounds.

For Unit 3, the sight words are:
-big
-it
-you
-is

The word family focus is the -et word family.

In each unit, there are three games to help learn and review the sight words.

-et Word Family Spell- Hayden used our letter beads to spell each word.

We reviewed beginning sounds with this Roll a Sound game. He would roll his jumbo dice, and then look at the picture in that row. He named the beginning sound, and covered the picture with a counter.

More work with the -et word family. He would flip the cover page and read each -et word family word.

This sight word game was a sensory bin find and spell. He dug out the letters from the bean bin, and spelled each sight word on the recording page.

He loves to rhyme and play games, so this was a hit. Rhyme Memory Match!

My FAVORITE part of Grow a Reader are the fluency sticks. Based on the new sight words, 5/6 new phrases get added to the jar each week. I set a timer for one minute, and see how many phrases Hayden can correctly read! There is also a reader for each unit that reviews the word family and sight words.

The next sight word game was flashlight find. I hid post it notes with his sight words written on them in the bathroom. He used a flashlight to read and find each word.

Lastly for this unit, Hayden practiced sight words with play dough mats.

All these activities and more come from my Grow a Reader Bundle! It is found in my TPT shop!
