Beginning Sounds Activities for Preschool, Prek, and Kindergarten
Identifying beginning sounds is such an important skill for pre-readers! I created a pack of fun and engaging ways to practice this important skill.
Beginning Sound Find and Cover Mats-
Do your kids love I Spy? Use mini erasers, themed manipulatives, pom poms, or buttons to find and cover pictures that begin with the letter on the magnifying glass.
Stick a Sound-
Write letters on dot stickers (or use stamps). Stick each sticker to the picture with the beginnign sound.
Beginning Sound Magnet Mats-
Just print off the page and place on a cookie sheet. Use magnetic letters A-Z to place on the picture with that beginning sound.
Beginning Sound Strips-
This is a super simple activity to prep. I like to place two strips and the letters in a pencil box so it is ready to go! I have a TON of these in the pack. You can use letter beads, letter manipulatives, stamps or stickers to complete the activity.
Beginning Sound Clip Cards-
Just use clothespins to clip the pictures with the same beginning sound.
I Spy Beginning Sound Mats-
These pages are in black and white for coloring. Find the letters and pictures on the list, and color them on the sheet.
Beginning Sounds What Doesn't Belong
Find and cover, clip, or circle the picture that has a DIFFERENT beginning sound from the other pictures in the row.
Beginning Sound Clip Wheels-
Write the letters on the clothespins. Find a picture with the beginning sound and clip onto the wheel. Great to practice those fine motor skills and phonological awareness.
Beginning Sound Sorting Mats
This is great for learners who are just learning beginning sounds. You can grab a few mats, and let them sort by sound. As they become more proficient, add in more letters to sort.
ALL of these activities can be purchased in my TPT shop in my
