Transportation Preschool Theme

Monday, April 29, 2019
There is nothing my boys love more than ALL things that GO! This transportation unit is full of hands on, play based learning activities in the areas of math, literacy, and writing. The activities come from my Transportation Preschool Pack on TPT.

Rhyming Rockets- Match the words that rhyme to build each rocket.

Road Ten Frames- Use mini erasers to count each ten frame. Then drive a car along the number road.

Train Track Counting- Count cargo into each train car using dot stickers or dot markers.

Play Dough Letters- Build each letter with play dough.

Letter Tunnels- I wrote a letter on strips of paper, and taped it to the floor to make letter tunnels. We would say the letter and sound as he dove cars through each tunnel.

Torn Traffic Light- Practice fine motor skills by tearing paper to make a traffic light.

Fine Motor Traffic Signs- Tape each pipe cleaner to a road sign. Count beads onto each pipe cleaner.

Alphabet Parking Lots- Drive a car on each letter, saying the sound. Then park the car at a picture with the correct beginning sound.

Build a Shape Road - Pick a shape building card. Use the road pieces to build each shape road.

Read it, Build it, Write it- Pick a sight word or letter card. Read the letter/word, build it with letter beads, and then write it with dry erase marker.

Sounds in the Clouds- Pick a beginning sound parachute. Identify the beginning sound. Mark it on the recording page. (This sensory bin is full of navy beans (dyed blue with paint) and cotton ball clouds).

Train Track Letters- Write letters (or sight words, or shapes) on a large piece of paper. Dip a train or car toy in paint. Drive over the letter.

Counting Trains- Use the number cards to count trains.

Transportation Sensory Bin- Hobby Lobby had the cutest transportation themed beads that were perfect for this bin! I added black beans, gems, rocks, and yellow chick peas to make this a fun bin to explore.

Transportation Sorting- Use tongs to sort the vehicle beads (from Hobby Lobby)  by color.

Train Drawing- Tape a marker to each train or car. Drive the trains across the paper!

Airplane Paint Resist- Draw a plane on contact paper. Stick the contact paper on a piece of blue construction paper. Use a sponge dipped in white paint to paint around the plane. Peel the contact paper off to reveal the airplane.

Missing Number Planes- Find the missing number in each sequence. Use a clothespin to clip the number in each sequence.

Unscramble the Words- Place letter beads in each truck (sold at the Dollar Tree at Easter). Open the truck, unscramble the letters, and read each word.

Gelatin Dig- Prepare gelatin according to the directions. Let it sit for a few hours. Then use tweezers to dig out each toy. These figures are Toobs from Michaels.

Train Track Sensory Play- We added our train tracks to a sensory bin. My boys poured the split peas in the funnels to load each train car.

Tracks & Paint- This is always a fun activity. We put butcher paper on a slide, squirted paint on top, then drove each car down the slide. It was a lot of fun!

Car Wash- After being covered in paint, the cars needed a WASH. Water, scrub brushes and a squirt of soap got these vehicles cleaned up!

This is a HUGE pack of fun for little learners.
