Here is a little sneak inside Grow a Reader, Unit 4.
Each week 4 new sight words are introduced, as well as a word family. There are also activities for rhyming, syllables, fluency, and beginning sounds.
For Unit 4, the sight words are:
-blue
-help
-for
-my
The word family focus is the -ap word family.
In each unit, there are three games to help learn and review the sight words.
-ap Word Family Spell- Use letter beads to spell each word.
We reviewed beginning sounds with this parking lot beginning sound game. Match each car to a picture with that beginning sound.
This is a fun way to practice onset and rime. Slide a letter, blend the sounds, and say the word.
This sight word game was a hidden word find. I covered the sight words with sand, and using a paint brush we uncovered each word.
Mystery Sight Word- Build each word and uncover the mystery word!
Sight Word Races- Place a piece of masking tape on cars. Write the sight words on the cars. Have the cars race, and record the winning car!
