If you're getting ready for a transportation theme, I have a set of preschool lesson plans and hands-on activities that will make planning incredibly easy. These resources are designed to help children explore math and literacy concepts through playful learning.
Grab it below:
Transportation Preschool Lesson Plans
I always start my day with table time! My students come in the room and there are 6-7 options to choose from. Students rotate freely through activities that hit on literacy, math, and fine motor skills.
Then we have our morning meeting. This is a very quick time of day where we do calendar, and quickly review our focus letter, number, shape, and color.
We always do an art activity related to our theme! Here are some fun transportation art projects!
Contact Paper Airplanes in the Clouds: Trace an airplane on contact paper and stick onto blue construction paper. Sponge paint around the plane. Remove the contact paper!
Tear and Glue Traffic Light: Work on fine motor skills as you tear and glue paper to make a traffic light.
Q-Tip Painting Trains: I searched for a simple train template, and then had my students create dot designs on the train cars with Q-tips and paint!
Car Track Painting: This is always my favorite! Dip cars, trucks, and trains into paint and make tracks! It turns out so wonderful each time.
Dot Marker Hot Air Balloons: Use dot markers to decorate a paper plate. Cut out a basket from brown construction paper and glue together! You can even take pictures of your students to place inside the basket.
Then we have circle time. We have our themed read aloud, do rhymes/chants from my circle time packs, and do literacy or math lessons.
We wrap up our day with centers and recess!
I hope this will help your planning!
