Back to School Lesson Plans and Art Ideas

If you're getting ready for a back to school theme, I have a set of preschool lesson plans and hands-on activities that will make planning incredibly easy. These resources are designed to help children explore math and literacy concepts through playful learning.

Grab it below:

Here is what my half-day preschool looks like!

I always start my day with table time! My students come in the room and there are 6-7 options to choose from. Students rotate freely through activities that hit on literacy, math, and fine motor skills.

Then we have our morning meeting. This is a very quick time of day where we do calendar, and quickly review our focus letter, number, shape, and color.

We always do an art activity related to our theme! Here are some fun back to school art projects! We always start the year with a lot of activities related to student's names.

Painters Tape Letter: Make the first letter of each child's name with painters tape. Paint the entire page. Remove the tape.

Self Portraits: Have each child draw a self-portrait with sharpie. Then, use bleeding tissue paper to cover the page. Paint with water. Remove the tissue paper when it dries.

Blow Painting Hair: Have each child draw a face. Then squirt liquid watercolors above the head. Use a straw to blow the paint, making crazy hair!

Watercolor Resist Names: Write each child's name in white crayon. Paint over top of the name with liquid watercolors. OR a messy (and fun) option is to squirt a spray bottle filled with diluted liquid watercolors over the name.

Tear and Glue Letters:
Write each child's beginning letter of their name on a piece of paper. Tear and glue paper strips to outline the letter.

Then we have circle time. We have a themed read aloud, say rhymes/chants from my circle time packs, and do literacy or math lessons.

We wrap up our day with centers and recess!

I hope this will help your planning!
