Spiders Preschool Lesson Plans and Art Ideas

Thursday, May 21, 2026

If you're getting ready for a spider theme, I have a set of preschool lesson plans and hands-on activities that will make planning incredibly easy. These resources are designed to help children explore math and literacy concepts through playful learning.

Grab it below:

Here is what my half-day preschool looks like!

I always start my day with table time! My students come in the room and there are 6-7 options to choose from. Students rotate freely through activities that hit on literacy, math, and fine motor skills.

Then we have our morning meeting. This is a very quick time of day where we do calendar, and quickly review our focus letter, number, shape, and color.

We always do an art activity related to our theme! Here are some fun spider art projects!

Spider Prints: Cut slits up the side of a craft tube. Fold them down to be the spider legs. Dip in black paint and make prints. Then, add googly eyes!

Marble Painting Webs: Use marbles and white paint to make spider webs. Turn it into a name craft, or just add spiders to finish off the project.

Yarn Painting: Tie a plastic spider to a piece of yarn. Dip the yarn in paint and drag it across the paper.

Spider Directed Drawing: To make the background for this project we used bleeding tissue paper (regular tissue paper doesn't work). We painted the tissue paper on with water. When it dried, we scraped it off. Then, we used a sharpie to draw a spider.

Salt, Glue, and Watercolor Webs:
Trace a web with glue. Cover with salt and let dry. Then gently paint with watercolors over the salt web.

Then we have circle time. We have a themed read aloud, say rhymes/chants from my circle time packs, and do literacy or math lessons.

We wrap up our day with centers and recess!

I hope this will help your planning!
